Spending a week or two at the lake either in a rental cottage or at a fishing resort that has rental cottages can make for a fun and memorable vacation. It’s not easy to assess which rental cottages have the right combination of location, facilities and equipment for your group.
One of the first questions to ask yourself is whether you prefer to look at private rental cottages or whether you prefer to look at fishing and vacation resorts. Private rental cottages have some advantages that can be desirable depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a quiet secluded location or want really extravagant accommodations then private rental cottages will be a good choice for you. Unfortunately, private rental cottages do not offer many of the other features that will really make the difference between a good vacation and a great one.
Fishing resorts have a number of advantages over private rental cottages. They typically offer a much wider array of equipment and facilities. Some of the most important of these are boat rentals, a playground and suitable fishing. If you are looking to have a boat to use while on vacation, fishing resorts pretty much always have boats available. They generally provide lifejackets and will offer basic training with respect to safety considerations and boat operation.
If you are renting a private cottage they will almost never have a playground on site. For families with kids it is essential to have an onsite playground, preferably one that is close to the cottages. It’s important that they offer a good selection of playground equipment, which usually consists of swings, slides and climbing apparatus. It is a huge bonus if they have additional items such as a merry go round or playhouses.
Finding a cottage to rent on a suitable fishing lake can also be an important consideration for many people. Family fishing outings can often be the best part of the vacation for both kids and adults. There are many lakes in Ontario that offer great fishing but there are also many others that are better for boating and swimming and are not good fishing lakes. There are many reasons why this might be the case but if you are looking to make fishing a part of your summer vacation, you need to ensure that the lake you are selecting has a quality and sustainable fishery.
There are a number of other factors that can also be important when selecting a location. A fire-pit, extra water equipment such as water trampolines and screened in decks can all make a difference to your overall enjoyment.
By collecting as much information as possible about each potential cottage resort, you can properly assess their strengths and weaknesses and make an informed decision.
